East Greenwich teachers and School Committee issue a statement.
Published: February 19, 2025

East Greenwich, R.I. – A working group of the East Greenwich Education Association (EGEA) and the East Greenwich School Committee (School Committee) met this past Monday, February 17 to discuss the vote of no confidence in the East Greenwich Public Schools (EGPS) Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent taken by EGEA on February 12.

The meeting was a forum for EGEA leadership to share in more detail the reasons behind the no confidence vote, and for the School Committee members to actively listen.  The discussion was candid, detailed, probing and mutually respectful.

The EGEA and the School Committee have agreed to work together on an action plan to address the specific concerns of the teachers, to ensure that the teaching and learning environment in all our schools is fully supported, to maintain appropriate oversight of school operations and, above all, to protect the position of EGPS as a leading school district in our state.

The EGEA and the School Committee will pursue an inclusive process with our educators to develop an action plan, to work together productively and to stay focused on our shared commitment to the students, families and community of East Greenwich.
