Cumberland Teachers make mayoral endorsement

CTA endorses Jeff Mutter for mayor
Published: October 17, 2024

The Cumberland Teachers Association announced today they have endorsed Jeff Mutter for Mayor of Cumberland.

“Jeff has always prioritized strong public education for Cumberland students,” said CTA President, Kerry Carlson, who has taught in Cumberland schools for 29 years and now works as a counselor at McCourt Middle School. “With his support, we’ve turned this district into one of the best performing in the state. Student outcomes are up, buildings are being repaired, and we’ve finally started to raise wages for our hardworking educators so we can compete with other districts to hire and retain the best staff.”

“Cumberland schools are great because of our great teachers,” said Mayor Mutter. “We have made fantastic progress over the past few years through their hard work, and I’m grateful for their support. They have an incredibly tough job, and we need to do more to support them so they can provide the best education possible for all our students.”

The CTA represents 440 certified teachers in Cumberland schools.
