National Education Association President Becky Pringle released the following statement on Donald Trump’s reported executive actions that hurt students, public schools, and communities.

“Most Americans believe that every student deserves opportunity, resources, and support to reach their full potential no matter where they live, the color of their skin, or how much their family earns.

“Donald Trump’s actions today do nothing to help students learn and grow, nothing to support parents, and nothing to assist educators in inspiring their students to learn and helping them succeed. Rather than listen to parents or work with educators to strengthen public schools, he is prioritizing the extreme Project 2025 playbook that aims to divide us and ignoring what we know is needed to ensure every student has the opportunity and resources to grow into their full brilliance.

“Parents and educators agree our students need more learning opportunities, not less. They need smaller class sizes to get more individualized attention. They need nutritious school meals so they can pay attention to class rather than their stomachs and they need access to mental health supports. They need to be respected for who they are, no matter their race, place, background, sexual orientation, or gender identity. And our students need to learn the good and bad of our history to be prepared to succeed in our diverse and interdependent world.”
