NEA Rhode Island is proud to offer professional development to members in order to support your work in the classroom/workplace. Below are the scheduled offerings for 2017/2018. All seminars in the PD Program are provided at no additional cost to our members. Refreshments are served. Simplify Your Life with Google Classroom

Social & Emotional Learning

Gain a basic understanding of social health and emotional health as well as the interaction between the two. Learn what skills your students need to succeed in the classroom now as well as strategies to teach these skills. In addition, learn basic de-escalation techniques to use when emotions overwhelm a student. This workshop is primarily geared for grades K-6. Refreshments will be served.

Conflicts arise in the workplace- they’re bound to happen. While we can’t always change that, we can change how we respond to and manage conflict. Dealing effectively with conflict at work is important for strengthening relationships, improving communications, creating healthy work environments and bringing important issues to light. This workshop will explore the underlying reasons for conflict, individual conflict styles, and strategies participants can employ to successfully reduce and handle conflicts with others. Peer-to-Peer Insights

This training provides participants with knowledge about a few different areas such as: using Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in the classroom or building-wide models, Trauma Informed Care of students in the School Setting, and Reflecting as an Educator. This is extremely relevant to new ESP or teaching staff and is a great review for seasoned staff as well.
